QR code menus for cafés and restaurants in Morocco: setting one up and keeping it current

A QR code menu lets customers browse your menu on their phone, from the table. It still has to be readable, up to date, and the QR code has to keep working for years. Here are the good practices, and the mistakes to avoid.

A PDF or a real web page?

Many QR code menus open a plain PDF: you have to zoom, the file is heavy, and every price change means redoing the file. A web page made for phones reads without zooming, opens fast and can be changed in seconds.

Above all, make sure the QR code points to an address you can change: if that address changes or disappears, every printed QR code becomes useless.

What a good menu includes

  • Clear sections (hot drinks, juices, breakfast, dishes…), with a contents list if the menu is long.
  • The price in dirhams next to each item.
  • A short description when the name isn't enough.
  • Photos of your signature dishes, not necessarily everything.
  • Unavailable items marked as such, rather than deleted and added back.
  • If you get tourists, the dish names in English or French too.

Where and how to place the QR code

  • On every table, on a stable, clearly visible stand.
  • Big enough: at least 2 cm across, more if customers scan from further away.
  • With a sentence that says what to do: "Scan to see the menu".
  • With a clear margin around it and good contrast: dark on a light background is the safest.

Before printing, test the QR code with an iPhone and an Android.

Keep it up to date

A digital menu is only useful if it's right. Build a simple habit: whenever a price or a dish changes, update the menu the same day. Sold out? Mark the dish unavailable rather than letting customers choose it for nothing.

With Lemsa

With the Pro plan, the Lemsa card opens your menu with a tap (NFC) or a scan: sections, prices in DH, photos, unavailable items, and a contents list from three sections up. You change the menu from your account; the printed card stays the same. The same card can also open a page that brings together your menu, Google reviews and Wi-Fi.
